Charles Serre: Fun Forever

Charles Serre: Fun Forever

French photographer Charles Serre's art book, ’Fun Forever’ is a chronological glimpse of underground icons and cultural scenes of the late 2000s–early 2010s, just before the rise of Instagram. Beginning with a fateful trip to Los Angeles in 2008, Serre documented an era-defining journey through wild nights in the music, fashion, and skateboarding scenes of Los Angeles and New York City.

Capturing the 2010s Underground

I visited Charles Serre in Paris to talk with him about the inspiration behind his American journey. Filmed in a run-and-gun style at various Parisian bars, I sought to match the raw energy of his travels while revealing the refined publication they produced.

The Publication

Published in partnership with biomaterials company MycoWorks, the book’s first printing included an exclusive run of covers made with Reishi™ mycelium leather. Our content campaign targeted boutique artbook sellers by combining the rough edge of Serre’s documentary photos with the elegant (and costly) material they were wrapped in.

Stories from the Underground

During our interview conversation, Serre recounted a wealth of personal anecdotes with generational figures like Spank Rock, Odd Future, A$AP Mob, and the Supreme skate crew. We used these recordings as part of our social media campaign, leveraging these memories for social sharing by the illustrious cult figures he kept in touch with a decade on.
