MycoWorks’ Reishi-brand mycelium leather has always been associated with the luxury sector, beginning with the company’s founding partnership with Hermès. Its first head-to-toe collection was a major step towards broad commercial adoption of the material, and its collaboration with YUME YUME was the perfect platform to expand its creative roots while maintaining a high-end customer base.

MycoWorks’ roots in the arts extend back to its founding by two artists in San Francisco. It is a key part of the company’s identity that was amplified by its association with the esteemed Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam. Our two-month exhibition with YUME YUME showcased the spectacular nature of mycelium with artworks that transformed in reaction to the presence of gallery visitors. Bridging the worlds of art and biotechnology, the collaboration also featured promotional pieces created from microscopic footage of mycelium growing in MycoWorks’ laboratories.
